The Conference of Bishops of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine urges believers to participate in the international initiative on August 14, observing a World Day of Prayer and Fasting for Peace.
This was reported by the website of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine.
"The full-scale war has been ongoing in Ukraine for the third consecutive year, and we all understand the true meaning of peace and the high cost it comes with. We recognize that our fight for independence and peace is not solely a military endeavor; it is also a spiritual journey, involving prayer and fasting before the Lord," the document states.
On the eve of the solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which falls on August 14, Roman Catholic bishops are urging believers to participate in an international campaign.
“Fasting and prayer are important practices in the Christian tradition for receiving God's grace,” the bishops emphasize.
“As a Church, we want our expressions of faith — fasting and prayer — to yield the long-awaited result of peace. To achieve this, we must first focus on the conversion of our hearts and deep inner repentance. Without this transformation, our external acts of fasting and prayer will remain ineffective and will not bring about the desired results,” the Conference of Bishops of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine asserts.
