Roman Catholic Religious Superiors Present Statutes

The first plenary session of the Conference of Religious Superiors of the Latin Rite in Ukraine was held in the Capuchin Monastery in Kyiv on 11 November 2002.Among other events, the statutes of the conference, which had been approved by the Vatican Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life, were presented during the plenary session.

Participants of the session also discussed problems of people who have been baptized in the Orthodox Church, but would like to be ordained to the Catholic priesthood. In addition, they discussed issues of the restitution of religious property and the return of monastery buildings. Among the participants of the session were Archbishop Nikola Eterovic, apostolic nuncio in Ukraine, and Roman Catholic Cardinal Marian Jaworski, head of the Conference of Roman Catholic Bishops of Ukraine. Today, Ukraine is home to 23 Roman Catholic monastic communities which have 350 monks. Source: www.credo.ru
