The Head of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Metropolitan Epifaniy was reported as saying this by the press service of the Church, according to Channel 24.
The achievement of the full unity of all Ukrainians around the Kyivan Throne today is hindered on the part of Ukrainian Orthodoxy that is unaware of destructive effect of further remaining in a spiritual dependence on its northern neighbor who in every way tries to isolate the OCU, to obstruct its recognition and to sow disagreement among Orthodox Ukrainians, he stressed.
Metropolitan Epifaniy also added that it is now very important for the Ukrainian clergy and believers to maintain unity.
“We need to maintain unity among ourselves – the bishops, clergymen and lay people – showcasing an example of such unity on our part, we will urge our brothers from the Moscow Patriarchate to realize the need to have a unified Orthodox Church in Ukraine and to take real steps in this direction,” the Metropolitan said.
