A new season of the propaganda project Globe of Orthodoxy has been announced in Russia. The program is hosted by Maria Butina, who once served 15 months in prison in the United States for working for the Kremlin.
This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation.
The propagandist will talk about Russian Orthodox communities abroad, in particular in the countries of the Global South.
As noted, this project is part of the Russian propaganda strategy aimed at promoting the interests of the Kremlin and the concept of the “Russian world” under the guise of religion. The project seeks to create a positive image of the Russian Federation and emphasizes the presence of Russian Orthodox communities around the world.
The Russian Orthodox Church has long been a tool of the Kremlin in its hybrid warfare, and this project is yet another confirmation that Moscow uses religion as a tool to expand its political influence in the world.
The Center has previously talked about key aspects of the ROC's military activities, its connection with the Russian armed forces and its role in legitimizing the Kremlin's criminal actions.
Maria Valerievna Butina is a Russian spy who, after being exposed and deported from the United States, became a functionary of the Russian political system.
She gained worldwide fame after her arrest in Washington in July 2018 on charges of having ties to Russian intelligence and working as a foreign agent in the United States without registration.
