SBU served suspicion on Archpriest Mykolai Danylevych of the UOC MP

12 April, 17:17

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has served suspicion on the UOC-MP’s archpriest, Mykolai Danylevych, for his subversive activities. The SBU documented his actions undermining the state by the deputy head of the Synodal Department of External Church Relations of the UOC-MP, Father Mykolai Danylevych.

This was reported by the SBU's press service.

On April 12, the Security Service of Ukraine conducted a search at his place.

It is noted that the clergyman justified Russia's war against Ukraine and incited religious hatred. After Russia's full-scale invasion, the priest publicly called for cooperation with pro-Russian individuals to jointly "pray for the health and well-being" of Russian occupiers. He posted this on his own Telegram channel, which he repeatedly used to spread pro-Kremlin narratives.

According to operational data, the priest oversaw a network of UOC-MP dioceses abroad. These institutions, under the guise of allegedly providing spiritual care to Ukrainian migrants, spread Russian propaganda narratives. Thus, the suspect attempted to influence the consciousness of Ukrainians abroad and discredit our country on the international stage.

Expertise initiated by the Security Service confirmed the facts of his subversive activities against our state. Additionally, during searches at his place of residence, a compulsory pension insurance certificate from the Russian Federation was found, indicating his possible citizenship of the aggressor state. Documents confirming his education at the diplomatic academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs were also found.

Based on the collected evidence, the cleric was informed of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: Part 2 of Article 161 (violation of equality of citizens based on their race, nationality, regional affiliation, religious beliefs, and other grounds) and Part 2 of Article 436-2 (justification, recognition as legitimate, denial of Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine, glorification of its participants).

Currently, the issue of selecting a preventive measure for him is being resolved. An investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime. The perpetrator faces up to 5 years in prison with confiscation of property."
