Secretary General of the Council of European Episcopal Conferences CCEE) MonsignorDuarte da Cunha urged members of the International Meeting on acts of charity, which is being held these days in Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina), to further solidarity with the Ukrainian people, who suffer from the consequences of military aggression in eastern Ukraine.

Secretary General of the Council of European Bishops’ Conferences  (CCEE) Monsignor Duarte da Cunha urged members of the International Meeting on acts of charity, which is being held these days in Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina), to further solidarity with the Ukrainian people, who suffer from the consequences of military aggression in eastern Ukraine.

During Saturday's plenary debate, the chairman invited members of the UGCC to discuss the current situation in the country and the role of the Church therein, and then encouraged the attending members from different European countries and institutions not only to overcome the silence about this “war forgotten by the European media” but to make possible efforts so that people in Ukraine felt support and solidarity. "Ukraine is in our hearts,” Monsignor Duarte assured the UGCC representatives.

Bishop Bohdan (Dziurakh) thanked participants for meaningful reports and expression of solidarity and support, and presented the book titled “God's creature seeks mercy,” published as part of the Jubilee Year of God's mercy. This book, according to the Secretary of the Synod of Bishops, contains theological and pastoral reflection on the acts of charity in the key of careful attitude towards God's creation. In the speaker’s opinion, it may become a modest, but valuable contribution of the UGCC Jubilee celebration, the Information Department of the UGCC reports.

"Joining the Holy Father who will attend the Prayer Meeting for Peace, on September 20 in Assisi, we prayed for Peace, a clear sign of divine Mercy, especially in Ukraine and in the countries of the Middle East", reads CCEE communique The Christian Duty to Give Hope.
