Former MP of Ukraine, founder of Smart-Holding, and clergyman of the UOC-MP Vadym Novynskyi has been included in the Register of Traitors maintained by the CHESNO Movement since March 2022.

According to the NACP, Novinsky "supports actions and policies of the Russian Federation that undermine and threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, as well as its stability and security." This is reported by CHESNO.

At the end of 2022, President Zelensky, by his decree, put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council, which imposed sanctions on Vadym Novynsky. At the same time, the ex-MP himself said he would appeal this decision in Ukrainian and international courts.

In the summer of 2022, Vadym Novynsky resigned as an MP and noted that he wants to focus on restoring destroyed churches. Now he is in Germany, and the leadership of the Moscow Patriarchate often travel there to see him.

Besides, according to Forbes, during the war, the Vadym Novynsky Foundation and Smart Holding businesses allocated UAH 206 million for humanitarian projects. Novynsky himself said that he considers Russia's large-scale military invasion of Ukraine an "act of aggression" that "cannot be justified." According to the Nashi Groshi newspaper, Novinsky does not help the Ukrainian army or is silent about such assistance.

Five months before the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he participated in the Liturgy in honor of the national hero of Russia, Oleksandr Nevsky, and Patriarch Kirill of the Russian Orthodox Church. He also blamed the Ukrainian side for the failure of peace talks.

In 2020, he became a deacon of the UOC-MP. He opposed granting the Tomos of autocephaly to the Ukrainian Church. He is a sponsor of the UOC-MP.

He was a Member of Parliament of two convocations from the "Opposition Bloc" party. He called the war in eastern Ukraine a "civil conflict" and called for direct negotiations with terrorists.

In 2018, he was one of 36 MPs who voted against the law on recognition of Ukrainian sovereignty over the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

He became a citizen of Ukraine during the presidency of Viktor Yanukovych. Before that, he was a citizen of the Russian Federation.

In 2021, he took 8th place in the ranking of the richest Ukrainians. Novinsky's fortune was estimated at USD 1.4 billion.
