"The West is worse than the Horde": Patriarch Kirill praises Alexander Nevsky for his choice
This was reported by the Telegram channel Christians Against War.
Interestingly, he said practically the same thing exactly two years ago, on December 6, 2022.
“Alexander Nevsky traveled to the Golden Horde to bring gifts as the Horde then ruled over Rus,” Kirill noted. - “So why did he put all his efforts into stopping the invasion of foreigners from the West? The answer is very simple. The Horde khan needed our material wealth, so Alexander Nevsky brought him gifts, as befits a high chief, knowing that all this was temporary and transient. The Horde did not encroach on the main thing - the soul of our people, their worldview, everything that was the basis of our existence. Yet when the foreign regiments left the West, St. Alexander, then Prince of Novgorod, realized the enormous danger threatening Rus. Above all, they needed our souls, or, in modern terms, they sought to reformat Rus and subjugate it to the West. That was the main task of the foreign invasion of Rus' lands at that time.
The Grand Duke understood that this was the most terrible danger, worse than any Horde captivity, for the Horde wished to rule over our pockets and stomachs, while the invaders from the West wanted our souls and national identity. It was to be destroyed by this foreign force, and, as the invaders thought, Rus was to become an eternal vassal of the West with all the devastating consequences: the destruction of statehood, the destruction of resources, the complete destruction of Rus' national identity and, of course, the Orthodox faith.”
