At the session of the Uzhhorod City Council on August 27, it was decided to pass free of charge the statue of Lenin, which was located in the Narodna Square of Uzhhorod, to the Mukachevo parish of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC).

According to portal Viza.uz.ua, the monument will be used as material to produce a sculpture of Bishop Andrii (Bachynskyi). The sculpture is to be erected in the square of Bishop Andrii near the Cathedral of UGCC in Uzhhorod.

It is not the first time that material from monument to the former leader has been used to produce monuments of religious character. A bronze statue of Lenin was used for the monument to Mother Ukraine and the Holy Mother of God-Oranta in the town of Sambir. On the initiative of the mayor of Sambir, Mykhailo Kit, for the 769th anniversary of the town on August 28, a monument to Mother Ukraine was unveiled near the town hall in the Rynok Square. According to Zaxid.net, the cost of the monument is approximately 1 million UAH but all the  expenses were covered by donations. The monument was erected in the place where the statue of Lenin used to be. Even the old base was used.
