Sweden will provide Ukraine with an additional $1.3 million in aid through UNESCO to support projects aimed at preserving cultural heritage.

A meeting was held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris between the permanent representatives of Ukraine and Sweden — Ambassadors Vadym Omelchenko and Helena Sångeland — and UNESCO Deputy Director-General Åsa Regnér. The participants discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in protecting Ukraine’s cultural heritage during the ongoing war.
During the meeting, the Swedish representatives announced the government’s decision to provide an additional $1.3 million in support of Ukraine through UNESCO. This funding is intended to implement initiatives aimed at preserving Ukraine’s cultural heritage, which is under threat from Russian aggression. Specifically, the aid will focus on supporting the Khortytsia National Reserve, which contains archaeological sites that require urgent protection.
The Ukrainian representatives expressed their gratitude to the Swedish government and UNESCO for their ongoing support.
The parties also agreed to maintain close cooperation to enhance international support for Ukraine and to implement joint projects focused on preserving the country’s cultural heritage.
