Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha urged Muslim countries, communities, and organizations to condemn the missile strike carried out by Russia on July 31, which hit the main mosque of the Religious Administration of Muslims of Ukraine, known as “Umma,” as well as the Islamic Cultural Center in Kyiv.
He wrote about this on his account on X, according to Suspilne.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stated that the recent events are yet another demonstration of "Moscow waging a criminal war against the very foundations of humanity," adding that "Russian terror spares no one."
Sybiha further urged all Muslim countries, as well as international governmental and non-governmental organizations and Muslim communities worldwide, to express their views, respond, and condemn this attack.
He emphasized that "Russia's barbarism" must be confronted with the strength and unity of the global community in order to force it to "put an end to war and terror."
On July 31, Mufti Murat Suleymanov of the RAMU “Umma” reported that a Russian rocket fell approximately 50 meters from a mosque, damaging the building further with its fragments.
According to the mufti, this mosque is one of the largest in Ukraine, drawing thousands of followers for Friday prayers. The blast shattered all the windows and doors of the mosque. The complex also includes a gymnasium and the office of the Congress of Muslims of Ukraine, both of which suffered significant damage.
Suleymanov noted that the local Muslim community is actively working on the restoration of the damaged premises.
Meanwhile, the representative office of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea condemned the strike as “another war crime by Russia.” They emphasized that “strikes on residential buildings, religious, and cultural structures are acts of terror aimed at intimidating the civilian population.”
On the night of July 31, the Russian army attacked Kyiv with drones and missiles, causing damage in several areas of the city. Eighty-two people were injured, with 44 requiring hospitalization, and at least seven lives were lost. The number of victims may increase as reports continue to emerge.
