This is stated in the Decree on the Convocation published on the official website of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.
According to the press service of the Secretariat of the Synod of Bishops of the UGCC, the Decree states that "due to the hostilities in Ukraine caused by the massive invasion of Russian occupying forces, in accordance with the decision of the Synod of Bishops of the UGCC held in the city of Przemyśl from July 7 to 15, 2022, with the consent of the members of the Permanent Synod of Bishops of the UGCC obtained during the 3rd (74th) session held on March 8-10, 2023, and with the consent of the Apostolic See, and in accordance with canons 103 and 106, § 2 of the Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches, by the authority of the Major Archbishop of Kyiv-Halych of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church," the Synod of Bishops of the UGCC is convoked to Rome from September 3 to 13, 2023.
The main theme of this year's Synod will be "Pastoral Care for the Victims of War."
The Decree also indicates that all bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church are invited to participate, as they have an urgent obligation to do so by virtue of church law and their oath.
