The entire Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra to be transferred to the OCU in the future - The Head of the OCU
This is reported by Ukrinform.
"The future of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra is to be fully in the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. First, we will serve on major holidays, and when the clergy of the Lavra are formed when some of the monks from the lower Lavra join us, then we will establish daily services. And already in the cathedrals, in the central Holy Assumption Cathedral, services will be held every Sunday,” he said.
At the same time, the Metropolitan noted that for some time, the OCU would co-exist on the territory of the Lavra with representatives of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate, who are responsible for the lower Lavra. At the same time, he noted that the OCU would continue to perform divine services in the churches of the upper Lavra: a long-term agreement will be signed later.
Metropolitan Epifaniy stressed that the future unification of the lower and upper Lavras under the auspices of the OCU should take place peacefully.
“There were a lot of hotheads who wanted to go and take away (the upper Lavra - ed.), but our position was clear: we want to go through the diplomatic path. We will see that over time the entire Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra will be Ukrainian.”
As reported, the Assumption Cathedral and the Refectory Church, which are located on the territory of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra Reserve, were returned to the state in early January with the use of the UOC-MP.
On January 7, Metropolitan Epifaniy held the first service on the feast of the Nativity of Christ in the Holy Assumption Cathedral of the Kyiv Cave Monastery. The second service was held on January 19 for Epifaniy.
