This will be possible only when her boos find a response in our hearts. This was emphasized by the Father and the Head of the UGCC in a letter to the Mayor of Novohrad-Volynskyi, Mykola Borovets, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Lesia Ukrainka.
"It is gratifying," the Primate notes in the letter, "that in Lesia Ukrainka's homeland you make a lot of efforts to honor and popularize the work of our great poetess. I truly thank all the people involved in organizing and implementing the celebration program." The Head of the Church is convinced that these events will fall like a good seed in the souls of people, who are thirsty for the immortal Ukrainian word, especially the younger generation.
"Today, our Lesia can teach us how to appreciate our own life, which is a priceless gift of God, and how to use our talents in order to serve the Motherland and the common good,” the letter reads.
To the conviction of the Father and the Head of the Church, honoring an outstanding Ukrainian woman, we pay tribute and glory to hundreds of unknown poets, writers, translators, who, having dedicated their lives to high ideals, remain unexplored in their homeland. Lesia Ukrainka’s legacy is a great gift for each of us, which we have a duty to preserve and pass on to our descendants.
"I wish you that all your planned events were a great success, leaving in the hearts of the participants a deep gratitude and desire to discover the work of Lesia Ukrainka. As a deposit of God's generous gifts, we ask for God's abundant blessing for you,” His Beatitude Sviatoslav concluded.
We remind you that today, February 25, 150 years have passed since the birth of Lesia Ukrainka. She entered the consciousness of the Ukrainian nation as a poet of courage and struggle, a symbol of love and devotion to Ukraine. Her example was followed by hundreds of thousands of women heroines who without hesitation joined the struggle for the freedom of Ukraine in the cruel XX century.
