The head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, expressed solidarity and condolences to Archbishop Luis Argüello García, President of the Spanish Bishops' Conference, over the tragic consequences of the floods that took the lives of more than 200 people.
This was reported by the Information Department of the UGCC.
In his letter, His Beatitude, Sviatoslav said: “In these days, when our people continue to struggle for survival, we have received painful news of an unexpected flood and the deaths it caused. The world has seen horrific images of suffering and the inability to change fate. We grieve together with your people.”
The Head of the UGCC expressed solidarity with the suffering and conveyed heartfelt condolences to those who lost their loved ones in Spain. “We feel your pain, and we put our prayers in your hands, dear brother in Christ and in the episcopacy,” His Beatitude Sviatoslav addressed the head of the Spanish episcopate.
He also noted that on November 1, when the Roman Catholic Church celebrates the solemnity of All Saints, Ukraine honors the memory of the righteous Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky. “He taught us to lift our eyes in trust to the Lord, who comforts and wipes away every tear,” said His Beatitude Sviatoslav.
“May the Lord accept the tears of the suffering and the deceased, comfort and give hope. May the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Patroness of the Spanish people, accompany you on your life's journey,” the Head of the UGCC concluded.
