In an announcement cited by Russian media, it is disclosed that Patriarch Kirill has decided to remove Archimandrite Cyril from the clergy because he “violated the 25th rule of the Holy Apostles”.

Archimandrite Cyril served as the head of the Department of External Church Relations of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) under Metropolitan Onufriy from 2008 to 2009, which is subordinate to the Patriarchate of Moscow.

Until March 2021, he was the Vice Chairman of the Education Committee of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church.

In March 2022, amid the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine, Archimandrite Cyril, who teaches at the Theological School of Stockholm, condemned the concept of the “Russian world” and the Russian invasion of Ukraine in a post on his personal Telegram account, signing a relevant statement.
