A personal meeting between Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Russia and Pope Francis is expected to take place during this year, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Department for External Church Relations (WCC) of the Moscow Patriarchate, said on Sunday.

This is reported by Blagovest-info.

"The meeting, as I hope, will take place this year. This will be a personal meeting," Metropolitan Hilarion said on the Church and Peace TV show.

On March 9, Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin stated that a possible meeting between Patriarch Kirill and the Pope is now unlikely, in particular, because of Kirill's statements about the situation in Ukraine.
