The Ukrainian World Congress expresses sincerest gratitude to His Beatitude Ieronymos II, Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, and all hierarchs who supported recognition of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine during a Holy Synod held in Athens on October 12, 2019.

The Ukrainian World Congress expresses sincerest gratitude to His Beatitude Ieronymos II, Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, and all hierarchs who supported recognition of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine during a Holy Synod held in Athens on October 12, 2019.

The Church of Greece, one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world and the state Church of Greece, became the first to recognize the independence and sovereignty of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

Formal recognition will take place in Thessaloniki on October 19, 2019, with the participation of Archbishop Ieronymos and Orthodox Church of Ukraine Metropolitan Epifaniy. 

As RISU informed, at an extraordinary meeting on October 12, the Council of the Greek Orthodox Church recognized the autocephaly of the OCU. The decision was adopted under the chairmanship of the Head of the Council and the Primate of the Church of Greece, His Beatitude Archbishop Hieronymus. This is a historic decision for the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. One of the largest Orthodox Churches in the world has officially confirmed the legality of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew's actions to grant autocephaly to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
