A video appeal by chaplain Fr. Dmytro Povorotnyy (Orthodox Church of Ukraine) to all Ukrainians was published on Facebook.

“Some individuals have never been clowns, although they were sometimes funny and fond of jokes, they did not “play fool”, but neglected their talents, business, work, family in order to go to defend their homeland. They did not call Ukraine a prostitute. They gave lives for her. They did not joke with faith, but treated others faithfully, cherished their faith and the church with respect. They did not apologize for their choice to defend their homeland even before the Kadyrov supporters, even when they were cut and crippled even before the shot in the head - they did not apologize. And the last of their words was – “Glory to Ukraine!” I am a priest, I'm not a clown, and what about you?” Channel 5 reported Fr Dmytro as saying.
