Traditional Orthodox Jewish synagogue opens in Chernivtsi
In Chernivtsi, at 2 Ukrayinska Street, a synagogue "Israel" -- where the community professes traditional Orthodox Judaism -- was opened.
"Through certain dramatic events, such as the death of the famous Chernivtsi Rabbi and healer Noah and a number of other serious circumstances, our Jewish community was forced to search for a place of worship in order to preserve the faith and religious traditions of our parents," says the Chairman of the Chernivtsi Jewish religious community Shapsa Averbukh. "That is why the Synagogue "Israel" was created, and it is attended now not only by Jews who pray there and celebrate Jewish holidays, but also by people of other faiths because they are looking for support and protection of God," the Jewish community of the city stresses.
A sign plate of the synagogue had been damaged before the opening by unknown persons.
