Turkey considers protection of Crimean Tatars its historical duty

26.09.2025, 12:00

Turkey views the protection of Crimean Tatars' rights as its historical and moral obligation, and it will continue to support Ukraine in this regard.

This was stated by Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler at the Crimean Platform, as reported by Ukrinform.

"Turkey has never recognized the annexation of Crimea and has maintained this stance since 2014, supporting Ukraine's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, including Crimea. Protecting the rights of the Crimean Tatars is not only a foreign policy issue but also a historical and moral duty," said Güller.

He emphasized that the Crimean Tatars are an integral part of Ukraine's multicultural society and positively contribute to its development.

“It is encouraging to see Ukraine defending the rights of our Crimean Tatar brothers and sisters. We will continue to support President Zelensky's commitment to the Crimean cause, and Turkey will persist in its efforts in this direction,” added the Turkish defense minister.
