Ukrainian historian Professor Voloymyr Serhiichuk presented in Kyiv a two-volume publication “Patriarch Josyf Slipyj in the Documents of the Soviet Security Services.”

According to UNIAN, the author noted that he wrote the book about the patriarch because he kept coming across documents testifying that “Patriarch Josyf was a great statesman” in the KGB archives. “I could see from the documents that they were not simply religious leaders but powerful figures, great Ukrainian statesmen of the national level. Therefore, I decided that it was my responsibility - even more so as I am not a Greek Catholic, which allows me to remain as objective as possible,” said the historian.

The historian stressed that the figure of Josyf Slipyj is a role model for Ukrainians. The professor presented the book in Canada, Estonia, Germany and Italy earlier this year.
