06.05.2014, 09:37

The Synod of UGCC published a letter, urging Ukrainians to "actively support these crucial elections (Presidential elections are scheduled for May 25), and faithfully take part in them."

The bishops emphasized that in the modern history of independent Ukraine there has not been a campaign held in such dramatic circumstances as this one. Therefore, the hierarchy stress that we need to unite all healthy forces of society and institutions more than ever.

They asked the candidates, their parties and representatives to "act honestly, transparently and responsibly, do not use loud, hollow and deceptive slogans but present a truthful
program of necessary reforms in Ukraine.

The UGCC bishops called on all members of election commissions for "responsible and honest fullfillment their tasks not to become co-authors of fraud or manipulation of the will of citizens. "No one - neither in Ukraine nor globally - should have any doubts regarding the respect of democratic principles in future elections," said the hierarchy of the UGCC.

The bishops offer clergy after every Liturgy to pray the prayer of Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky for a better fate for Ukraine and to pray daily for future elections. The letter was published by the UGCC Information Department.
