UGCC Patriarch meets with Anglican Archbishop Thabo Mcgobu of Cape Town

Patriarch of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Sviatoslav met with Archbishop Thabo Mcgobu of Cape Town and the Metropolitan of the Anglican Church of South Africa. The meeting was attended by Fr. Igor Shaban, chairman of the UGCC Commission on interreligious and interfaith relations.

This is Archbishop Thabo Mcgob's first visit to Ukraine. Its goal is to see the terrible consequences of Russian aggression in Ukraine, and to hear the testimony of eyewitnesses.

Dr Greg Mills, director of the Brentherst Foundation, arrived with the archbishop as part of the delegation. They were accompanied by Oksana Sikora, head of the Global South Project (Africa and Latin America), and Colonel Oleg Kvasyuk, representative of the Ministry of defense of Ukraine, attaché in Africa.

At the beginning of the meeting, His Beatitude Sviatoslav thanked Archbishop Thabo Mcgob for this visit, which is a manifestation of support and solidarity with the Ukrainian people.

The head of the UGCC told еhe Archbishop about his recent visit to the Donetsk Exarchate of the UGCC, during which he visited the cities of Zaporizhia, Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, as well as de-occupied villages of the Kherson region. The Primate shared his impressions of what he saw, spoke about the suffering of people over whose heads the missiles are being launched.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav drew attention to the prayer that supports the Ukrainian people, gives them hope for the future, and invited the archbishop to pray for Ukraine.

In addition, while visiting Ukraine, Archbishop Thabo Mcgobu also visited the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv.

Archbishop Thabo Mcgob is considered one of the most influential Anglican confessors in South Africa. He is the youngest ever elected Archbishop of Cape Town (South Africa). Follower and successor of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, South Africa's greatest spiritual leader and associate of Nelson Mandela.
