Patriarch Sviatoslav of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church approved the Regulation and Decree proclaiming the Regulation on the Commission of Pastoral Care for Sobriety of the Major Archdiocese of Kyiv-Halych of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church. Patriarch Sviatoslav of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church approved the Regulation and Decree proclaiming the Regulation on the Commission of Pastoral Care for Sobriety of the Major Archdiocese of Kyiv-Halych of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church. It is reported by the Information Department of the UGCC.
The Chairman of the Commission will hold office for three years, as stated in the Decree, nominating Fr Ihor Kozankevych the Chairman of the Commission.
"The purpose of the Commission is the assistance to the Head of the UGCC in the formation of proposals on the activities of the UGCC in the area of addictions prevention, provision of aid to addicted and their families in counteracting addictions, promotion of the culture of communication, celebration and relaxation and promotion of the sober way of living, creation and implementation of programs to counter addictions," says the regulation.
The Commission was established on the basis of reorganization of the sub-commission "For Sobriety of Life".
The Regulation specifies the main directions of the Commission's work:
- coordination of the activities of the Archdiocese / diocesan / exarchal commissions of the pastoral care for sobriety;
- encouragement, facilitation, support and coordination of all initiatives to counteract additions and to promote sobriety;
-development of cooperation with the relevant bodies of other Churches, religious and public organizations and public authorities at all levels in the creation and implementation of programs related to the scope of the Commission's activities.
-cooperation with the online media of the UGCC for the development of online materials for the introduction of a sober lifestyle;
- the development of programs, teaching and learning materials. Publishing activity;
-organization and holding of scientific and practical seminars, meetings, trainings, conferences.
-coordination and support activities of Church rehabilitation center "Nazareth," Rehabilitation center "Transformation" and other rehabilitation centers, communities, brotherhoods, and organizations that are engaged in counteracting addictions and promotion of sobriety and work within UGCC's Major Archdiocese of Kyiv-Halych;
-initiating and promoting the sobriety movement, as well as conducting sobriety missions.
