The leadership of the Ukrainian Union of Churches of Evangelical Christians Baptists (UCECB) expressed concern that after the signing of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU, Ukraine will feel the pressure to legalize same-sex marriage.
For God to protect the people from the “tyranny of sin and depravity,” they, therefore, urge their fellow believers to spend a day fasting and in prayer. The recommended period is from November 1 to 3, the website of the UCECB reports.
“According to the voiced European integration plans of our state, the signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement is announced for November 28-29, 2013. This association will lead to increased influence on Ukraine on the issue of the legalization of gay marriage and the right for such people to adopt, the introduction of gender rights, juvenile justice, and others,” reads a Call to Prayer, signed by the head of Baptist Union, Vyacheslav Nesteruk.
The appeal mentions that in September members of the Baptist Union held a council meeting, during which they expressed a clear position regarding the possible granting of special rights to sexual minorities. In their opinion, these rights “destroy the foundations of spirituality in our society and create big problems for the Christian community in Ukraine.”
“Pray at services, with families and separately. Let us unite our country with prayer and we will believe that the Good God will protect our nation from the tyranny of sin and depravity,” said Vyacheslav Nesteruk.
