Ukrainian Canadian Congress launches National Holodomor Awareness Week 2015

As the Ukrainian Congress in Canada told UKRINFORM, numerous events dedicated to raising the level of public awareness on the Holodomor and honoring victims of this crime are to be held this week.

Thus, in Hamilton and Ottawa there will be the screening of documentaries and open lessons in schools,a lecture will be read by a renowned professor in Winnipeg, in Toronto the members of provincial parliament, members of the Ukrainian community and concerned citizens will hold commemorative events in the park in the center of the city. The Ukrainians killed by genocide will be remembered in the City Hall of Edmonton, the capital city of Alberta and the Canadian Human Rights Museum will host an exhibition dedicated to Holodomor. On Sunday, all Canadian cities, where the members of the Ukrainian community live, will hold a memorial mourning service.

In addition, the Canadians are urged to stop for a moment of silence and light a candle in the house on Sunday at 19:32.

The Ukrainian Canadian Congress stresses the importance of raising awareness of ordinary Canadians of Ukrainian on the act of genocide of Ukrainians - Holodomor.

“Thanks to our efforts the federal government of Canada recognized the Holodomor as genocide, which gave impetus to the entire international community; a similar decision was made by provincial governments of most Canadian provinces. We must continue investing our efforts to spread knowledge about the Holodomor across Canada and around the world so that the future generation remembered, studied and understood these tragic pages of our history,” the Congress underscores.
