People's Deputy Volodymyr Yavorivskyi has proposed to hold on April 6, 2011, a parliamentary hearing "The church-state dialogue as an important factor in interdenominational harmony in Ukraine,"
According to the document, the Cabinet of Ministers is to prepare by March 10 necessary information and analytical material for the hearing and proposals for draft recommendations, and to define speakers to make reports on this issue.
It is planned that the Committee of the Supreme Council on Matters of Culture and Spirituality will hold organizational meetings to prepare of the hearing.
Volodymyr Yavorivskyi explains his initiative by the fact that "today's situation in the state's religious life is dangerous."
According to the deputy, the "negative factor in this context has been the lack of determination during the last year to hold a dialogue at the highest state level with a religious organization, which is most extensively represented by the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations."
Yavorivskyi also noted that the liquidation of the State Committee on Nationalities and Religions as part of administrative reform was carried out without consultations with representatives of the religious community.
According to the deputy, the Supreme Council's hearings on the proposed topics will allow Ukrainian deputies and heads of the bodies of the executive power to hear the position church representatives.
According to him, it will help establish a permanent and constructive dialogue with representatives of various denominations.
"The parliamentary hearing will draw attention to the necessity to implement in Ukraine a unified state policy in the area of religion and to ensure equal rights and possibilities for all denominations in Ukraine in accordance to the Constitution and the current law."
