Ukrainian Muslims celebrate Eid al-Fitr

The holiday of Eid al-Fitr, referred to as Uraza-bayram among Crimean Tatars is celebrated today in the Muslim world. Millions of believers mark the ending of holy month Ramadan, which also means the end of the month-long strict lent.

The holiday of Eid al-Fitr, referred to as Uraza-bayram among Crimean Tatars is celebrated today in the Muslim world. Millions of believers mark the ending of holy month Ramadan, which also means the end of the month-long strict lent.  

President Petro Poroshenko congratulated Ukrainian Muslims on the holiday on Monday.

‘I congratulate you all on Uraza Bayram, the holiday that celebrates the ending of the lent during the holy month of Ramadan.  It symbolizes loyalty to family values, sensitivity for the needy and the downtrodden, mercy and reconciliation.  These qualities unite people, saving peace and consent,’ the message reads as published by Poroshenko’s press service.

Eid or Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, which is a month of fasting that started on May 27 and finished on Saturday June 24.
