Ukrainian Orthodox church to be built in Poland

On April 7, in the Polish city of Rzeszów, the cornerstone was laid at the construction site of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in honor of the translation of the relics of St. Nicholas from Myra to Bari.  

According to a report of the deputy head of the Orthodox Brotherhood of St. Andrew the First-Called, Yurii Fediv, it was a historic day in the life of Ukrainians of Pidkarpattia, as, after many years of hard work, the construction of a magnificent Orthodox Church in Riashiv (Rzeszów) and the return of Orthodoxy to that town began.

The celebratory service was led by Archbishop Adam of Peremyshl and Novosanchiv in concelebration with Archbishop Avel of Liublin and Kholm and Bishop Heorhii of Simiatytskyi, the Orthodox Ordinary of the Polish Army.

The faithful from all the Ukrainian parishes, representatives of the Ukrainian Communities in Poland gathered for the events.

The delegations from Peremyshl (Przemy?l) and Sian regions were the biggest.

In 2008 in the Polish regional center of Riashiv (Rzeszów), thanks to the efforts of Archbishop Adam of Peremyshl and Novosanchiv, a Ukrainian Orthodox community in honor of the translation of the relics of St. Nicholas from Myra to Bari was established. A small chapel was built with the help of the first parish priest, Fr. Yaroslav Kadylo. Regular Orthodox services began.
