At one of the central squares in the Italian capital, about 200 citizens of Ukraine gathered to call the government of the country to recognize the great famine as a genocide of the Ukrainian nation. The meeting was attended by a member of the Roman Council and the mayor's representative, Federico Rocca. He reported on behalf of the mayor that Rome supports the requests of the Ukrainian community.
"We are together with you and join your call to the Italian state and government to recognize the Holodomor as a genocide of the Ukrainian nation," said the politician Federico Rocca.
Similar events were held last Sunday in other Western capitals.
The Ministry of Education of Ukraine distanced itself from the idea of the Public Committee of Memory of Victims of the Genocidal Holodomor to keep the national tradition and conduct a "lesson of memory" on November 22-26.
