The mission of UNESCO has started working in Chernihiv, Ukraine, with the aim of studying the damage caused to cultural heritage sites by Russian rocket attacks.
The mission will assess the damage inflicted on the city's cultural heritage landmarks over the course of this week, as reported by the Ministry of Culture, according to the sud.ua website.
The mission plans to collect data on damaged objects, including the Pyatnytska Church, Antoniyevi Caves, Chernihiv Regional Academic Music and Drama Theater named after T.G. Shevchenko, and others. After gathering the necessary documentation and information, a plan for the rehabilitation of these objects will be prepared.
This mission is part of the project "Supporting Ukraine in the Field of Culture and Education Through UNESCO: Responding to Emergencies for World Heritage and Cultural Assets: Damage Assessment and Protection."
The mission involves representatives from international organizations, including ICCROM and UNESCO, as well as domestic experts in the field of culture. The mission's objective is to search for and collect information on the damage to historical and cultural structures. After processing all the information, the mission's representatives will develop a plan for the rehabilitation of the damage.
