German Cardinal Reinhard Marx sent the Ukrainian Greek Catholics wishes of blessing of the occasion of the 70th anniversary since the violent liquidation of the UGCC by the Soviet regime.
"Then [during the so-called pseudo-synod which liquidated the UGCC] the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Ukraine, not least because of its loyalty to the Holy See, was forced to the underground”, wrote the Cardinal. “I want to use this opportunity to express best wishes and blessing to you [Major Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk] and the entire Greek-Catholic Church in Ukraine. "
