The Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) which session was held on December 7 at the Holy Assumption Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, has decided that the Patriarch of Constantinople has no canonical right to convene any assembly in Ukraine (Journal No. 41), according to the Information and Educational Department of the UOC-MP.

The Synod has also emphasized that Patriarch Bartholomew has no right to summon hierarchs of the UOC (MP) to such gatherings.

“The planned unification council is deemed an illegal assembly because it will involve representatives of schismatic groups,” says the message.

Thus the Synod participants do not bless the hierarchs, the clergy, the monks and the laity “to participate in the so-called unification council.”

The Holy Synod has also made a point that none of the clergy or laity is authorized to represent their Church at this gathering.
