UOC Primate Met with Veterans of the Great Patriotic War

On the eve of the 65th anniversary of the Great Victory, Metropolitan Volodymyr of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate met with Great Patriotic War veterans from all the regions of Ukraine.

KYIVOn May 8, 2010, on the eve of the 65th anniversary of the Great Victory, Metropolitan Volodymyr of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP) at his residence at the Kyiv Cave Monastery met with the veterans of the Great Patriotic War (Soviet name of WWII) who arrived to the capital of Ukraine from all the regions of Ukraine, reports the website of the UOC-MP.   

Greeting the guests on the coming holiday, the hierarch marked the heroic feat of the veterans who with great sacrifice, with faith in their hearts, and by the cost of their blood obtained peace for the future generations. Metropolitan Volodymyr wished God's blessing and many years of life to those attending.  

The hierarch marked the veterans of war with certificates and blessed them with little icons of the Resurrection of Christ.


At the end, the choir of the Kyiv Theological Academy sang "Many Years" to those present, and performed war songs.
