UNIAN reported with reference to the Kharkiv City Council that events to remember the Katyn tragedy were held on 12 April at the Memorial to Victims of Totalitarianism at Piatykhatky.

The event was attended by General Consul of Poland in Kharkiv, Yan Granat, representatives of the city and regional authorities.

“In many countries, April is a month of remembrance of the victims of war and totalitarianism. We are now in a place where thousands of Poles, Ukrainians, Russians, Jews and other nationalities found rest. Today, we bow to their graves, honour their memory and show our protest against any manifestations of intolerance, chauvinism and xenophobia,” said Mr. Granat.

Catholic and Orthodox priests conducted a service and prayer service for the repose of the victims. The memory of them was honoured with a minute of silence and flowers were laid at the memorial.
