Olena Zelenska visited Bambino Gesù Children's Hospital, which has taken in 658 Ukrainian children since the beginning of the full-scale war.

According to Ukrinform, the first lady announced this in a message on Telegram.

Zelenska noted that in March 2022, the Polish presidential couple flew five Ukrainian children who were in dire need of intensive and urgent care to Rome on their plane. “This very institution accepted them for treatment without hesitation. The young patients were later visited personally by the Pope,” the President's wife said.

She clarified that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia, the Pontifical Children's Hospital Bambino Gesù has received a total of 658 Ukrainian children with various diagnoses.

“Today, I have the opportunity to thank the president of Bambino Gesù, Professor Tiziano Onesti, for everything, visiting the institution together with my colleagues: First Lady of Lithuania Diana Nausiedene, Tamara Vucic of Serbia and Anna Hakobyan of Armenia. Together we talked to Ukrainian children who are undergoing treatment there,” Zelenska said.

She also noted that the hospital was among the institutions that offered help to the young patients of the Kyiv Okhmatdyt hospital, which was hit by a Russian missile on July 8 this year.

The First Lady of Ukraine added that at the end of November, specialists from the pediatric departments of Okhmatdyt will come to the Vatican hospital to share their experience in treating trauma.
