UKRAINE – Last weekend, on April 3-4, 2010, in 16.3 thousand church buildings in all regions of Ukraine Easter services were celebrated by over 10.9 million persons according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, reports the Institute of Religious Freedom.
This year has been special in that the Christians of different denominations – Orthodox, Catholics, and Protestants – celebrated Easter on the same day.
The highest attendance was registered in the Lviv Oblast (over 1.6 million people), the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast (over 987 thousand people), the Zakarpattia Oblast (over 790 thousand people), and the Ternopil Oblast (700 thousand people) reports the web site of Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. http://www.mvs.gov.ua/mvs/control
For comparison, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, the Easter events there were attended by about 8 million people.
