Anniversary of Referendum on Ukrainian Independence Marked

On December 1, 1991, Ukrainians supported the Act of Declaration of Independence of Ukraine, which was passed by the Supreme Council of Ukraine on August 24, 1991.

On December 1, 1991, Ukrainians supported the Act of Declaration of Independence of Ukraine, which was passed by the Supreme Council of Ukraine on August 24, 1991. The referendum ballot included the text of the Act on Declaration of Independence of Ukraine and a question "Do you confirm the Act of Declaration of Independence of Ukraine?"

In the voting participated 31,891,700 citizens, that is 84.2% of the total number of voters. Out of this number, 28,804,100 citizens (90.3%) of them answered "Yes, I confirm.People of all regions of Ukraine, regardless of their nationality, gave a positive answer.

On December 1, 1991, the first president of independent Ukraine, Leonid Kravchuk, was elected. He received 19,643,600 votes, 61.56% of vote.
