AUCCRO urgently addresses the international community asking to save St. Sophia of Kyiv from the aggressor's bombs

01.03.2022, 17:18

On March 1, the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations reported having heard the most disturbing information about the potential air attack on one of the most famous symbols of Ukraine, the spiritual shrine – St. Sophia of Kyiv.

The AUCCRO requests all representatives of the international community to immediately engage all possible means to make the Russian leadership completely cease criminal attacks on Ukrainian cities and on Kyiv in particular.

"We have received very disturbing information about a potential air attack on one of the most famous symbols of Ukraine, the spiritual shrine – St. Sophia of Kyiv.

For obvious reasons, we can't check it ourselves. However, we are witnessing the barbaric shelling of residential areas of Ukrainian cities by Russian troops. During World War II, Soviet saboteurs blew up yet another shrine – the Holy Assumption Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. It is not improbable to assume that the aggressor‘s perverted mind is capable of committing another crime of this kind.

There is a high probability that Russian missiles hit St Sophia due to technical defects in weapons. Every day, these missiles are launched towards Kyiv and each of them can hit the world-famous shrines, either on purpose or through defects or errors.

Therefore, we appeal to the Russian political leadership to immediately stop missile attacks!

We are requesting all representatives of the international community to immediately engage all means possible to make the Russian leadership completely abandon its criminal attacks on Ukrainian cities and on Kyiv in particular.

We once again categorically condemn the Russian armed aggression against Ukraine and demand its immediate termination, the AUCCRO appeal reads.
