Authorities to strengthen security measures in Uman starting from Monday
According to him, the city, as in previous years, will have a special regime of entry and exit and movement of citizens, Radio Svoboda reports.
In his telegram, he announced the sections of roads where vehicles will be banned from entering, as well as where the control regime will be tightened.
Taburets added that the sale of alcoholic beverages, fireworks, and pyrotechnics would be banned in the pilgrimage neighborhood.
On September 10, the head of the Cherkasy Regional Orthodox Association called on Hasidim to refrain from going to Uman to celebrate Rosh Hashanah. At the same time, he acknowledged that, despite the warnings, some believers would still come to Uman.
In 2023, despite warnings from the Ukrainian authorities and security services, more than 23,000 Hasidic pilgrims visited Uman.
The tomb of Tzadik Nachman, the founder of the so-called Bratslav branch of Hasidism, is located in Uman. It is one of the most revered shrines and a place of pilgrimage for members of this branch. All Jews of this branch of Hasidism consider it their duty to visit the tomb of Rabbi Nachman at least once in their lives and believe that if they meet New Year on Rosh Hashanah in Uman, that year will certainly be happy for them.
