Bishop Jan Sobilo commented on the meeting between the President of Ukraine and the Holy Father, which took place this year in the Vatican on May 13. Since the full-scale invasion of the Russian army into Ukraine, this was the first meeting between President Zelensky and Pope Francis, although they had communicated three times over the phone during this time, reported the website of the RCC in Ukraine.

"This is a very important meeting!" emphasizes Bishop Sobilo. "First and foremost, because it was highly anticipated. President Zelensky had the opportunity to meet and talk with the Holy Father, who knows a lot about the context of this war and has given his blessings to good decisions in Ukraine, as he is the Commander-in-Chief. He is responsible for the course of the war both in terms of defense and counteroffensive. Therefore, this support from the Holy Father for the Ukrainian people through this presidential visit is of great significance.

We should also pay attention to the fact that this took place on May 13, the 106th anniversary of the Fatima apparitions and the 41st anniversary of the assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II. Twenty-two years ago, Pope John Paul II, who is now a saint, visited Ukraine. And his blessings, when he prayed in Kyiv and Lviv, were for me the exorcism that initiated the liberation of our Ukraine from false ideology. Liberation from everything that is not godly in the state structures and in all spheres of our country's life

We need to look at current events with hope because this meeting between President Zelensky and Pope Francis has given blessings and strength to our people, through the patronage of the Most Holy Virgin Mary of Fatima and through the intercession of St. John Paul II, who visited our Ukraine and blesses us from heaven."

It is worth noting that Bishop Sobilo consecrated a square in Palermo, Sicily, which will be named "Ukraine Square." This took place during the European Week held in this city for the fourteenth time.
