Catholic priest kidnapped in Donetsk

Polish Catholic priest Pawel Witek went missing in Donetsk on Tuesday afternoon, online edition OstroV said quoting the priest's Facebook friends.

"Reportedly, Pawel Witek, a Catholic priest who came from Kazakhstan to visit Roman Catholic priest, went missing in Donetsk at around noon on May 27," it said.

On Tuesday night priest was expected to come to Constitution Square, where daily inter-religious prayers for peace in Ukraine are said, but contact with him was lost.

The bishop of the diocese of Kharkiv and Zaporizhia of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine Marian Buchek confirmed by telephone that pro-separatists kidnapped in Donetsk Polish priest Pavel Vitek.

According to the bishop, the Polish consul in Donetsk Jakub Volonsevych and Auxiliary Bishop of Kharkiv-Zaporizhia Jan Sobiloto started negotiation with the kidnappers this morning, Wednesday May 28.
