The Council of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine votes in favor of the transition to the New Julian Calendar

Today, on July 27, the Local Council of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine is taking place at the St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv.

The Council has made a decision to transition to the New Julian Calendar.

As reported by its participant, Father Dmytro Shapovalov, out of the 161 delegates present at the Local Council, 156 voted in favor of the transition, 5 were against it, and none abstained.

It was emphasized that parishes and monasteries of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, if they wish (and this should be officially documented during parish meetings with a protocol), can continue to use the old calendar.
