The government of the southern Ukrainian republic of Crimea has recently transferred two former church buildings in the city of Kerch to local communities of the Armenian Apostolic Church and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP). This news was reported by the press service of the Crimean Council of Ministers on 7 November 2002.
The Armenians received the building of the Church of the Holy Archangels, which had been occupied by the Crimean Philharmonic Society in Kerch. The community of the Assumption Church of the Simferopol and Crimean eparchies of the UOC-MP received the ruins of a medieval church in the city of Staryi Krym, which had belonged to the Ministry of Architecture and Construction Policy of Crimea. These decisions of the Crimean government were based on the law “On Freedom of Conscience and Religious Organizations.” Source: www.i-news.org
