Dilapidated Monastery Given To Kyivan Orthodox In Chernihiv Region

05.11.2002, 19:26

The National Committee on Religious Matters and the northern Ukrainian Chernihiv regional administration transferred the dilapidated Transfiguration Monastery in Maksakiv, Mena district, to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate. This news was reported on 4 November 2002.

Today, the monastery is in very poor condition. In fact, only the ruins of the bell-tower and the foundation have remained. The monastery in Maksakiv dates back to 1642, when St. Dymytrii (Tuptalo), who is known more widely as the metropolitan of Rostov, was abbot.
