President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko met with representatives of the Council of the European Baptist Federation, who spoke about Russian aggression against the country, the press service of the Head of State reported. It was cited by Segodnya.
He told the Baptists how Ukraine counteracts Russia which illegally annexed the Crimea and seized part of the territory of Donbas. As a result of this aggression, a large number of Ukrainians suffered. Therefore, the president thanked representatives of the Baptist Churches for their prayer for peace in Ukraine.
In addition, he thanked them for a trip to eastern Ukraine, where they had the opportunity to see the consequences of Russian aggression with their own eyes.
“We regard your visit to Ukraine as a visit of solidarity and unity with the Ukrainian people in very difficult times,” said Poroshenko.
In addition, he noted that the state does not interfere in the internal affairs of the Church, adhering to generally accepted international and domestic legislative principles.
In turn, President of the World Baptist Alliance, Paul Msiza, thanked Poroshenko for supporting religious freedoms of Ukrainians.
“We are standing by Ukrainians, we are doing everything to bring peace to Ukraine. Yesterday we visited the demarcation line and saw many people whose hearts were broken, fearful. We pray for them, pray for peace in Ukraine,” he said
