European Parliament condemns repression of Greek Catholics in Belarus

17.10.2025, 14:00

The draft resolution of the European Parliament regarding the situation in Belarus (B10-0455/2025) highlights that the Belarusian Greek Catholic Church has faced particularly intense pressure. Due to its inability to re-register a sufficient number of parishes, the Church has lost its status as a religious association along with the rights that accompany that status.

This was reported by Christian Vision.

Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) highlight that mandatory re-registration is used by the regime to limit religious diversity.

The document identifies five clergymen who are currently imprisoned for their pastoral activities: Serhiy Rezanovich, Andrzej Juknevich, Henrik Okolotovich, Grzegorz Havel, and Oleg Loiko.

The European Parliament calls for an end to the persecution of clergy and urges the restoration of the legal status of communities that have been unjustly stripped of their registration.
