On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of Vatican Radio, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, head of the UGCC, wrote a congratulatory letter to Paolo Ruffini, prefect of the Dicastery of Communications of the Roman Curia.

This is reported by the Information Department of the UGCC.

"Vatican Radio has fulfilled an extremely important mission in serving the persecuted churches, especially the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. During the communist persecution, your radio was the only voice of the Church for our faithful, and through your broadcasts, we united with the successor of the Apostle Peter and the entire Catholic Church," His Beatitude Sviatoslav wrote in his letter.

The head of the UGCC described the history of Radio as "incredibly impressive": "during these 90 years of your history, God's word was proclaimed in different parts of the world, in different languages and peoples." His Beatitude Sviatoslav thanked the leaders of the Dicastery of Communications for the constant presence of the Ukrainian language among 40 other languages, even after the recent reform of the Vatican media.

The head of the UGCC also wished the radio workers "to pursue their mission with success in transmitting the voice of St. John the Baptist's successor." The Apostle Peter for the whole world."

Vatican Radio began broadcasting on February 12, 1931. It was solemnly inaugurated by Pope Pius XI, who instructed Guglielmo Marconi to open a radio station on the territory of the Papal State.
