In his welcome letter on the occasion of the XXVI Congress of Ukrainian Canadians held November 1-3 in Ottawa, the Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, His Beatitude Sviatoslav urged them to remember that the greatest gift parents can pass on to their children is faith in God.

According to the UGCC Department of Information, the Head of the UGCC expressed his gratitude to the participants of the Congress that due to their humanity and professional performance, hundreds of thousands of our immigrants from Ukraine found their second homeland in Canada.

The Head of the Church noted that the Ukrainian diaspora, which is present in numerous countries such as the USA, Canada, Poland, Italy, etc., is very active. It is persistent in implementing its initiatives in the public life of the host country, and in the case of Canada, even in the political sector. Positive is the fostering of ties with Ukraine, which today passes its exam as a free, independent and democratic state.

“Unfortunately,” the Head of the Church states, “the information that comes to you from your parents' lands is not comforting. For the fifth year in the east of Ukraine, a war has been waged against our nation, which with its bloody millstones grinds the lives and destinies of our many sons and daughters, who without hesitation give their most precious lives for the triumph of justice."

At the same time, he writes, we must admit that our society has not yet been completely cleansed of the post-Soviet worldview and thinking. However, despite all these challenges, we are, with God's help, moving forward to the victory of good over evil.

“In these difficult times, new Ukraine is being born, and I want to encourage you to be active participants in this process to the best of your ability. Remember that the greatest gift parents can pass on to their children is faith in God. Stick with your Church, which is your mother and the life-giving source. In it, you will find relief for life's worries and will be able to live your age with dignity by the grace of God,” His Beatitude Sviatoslav wrote.
